Welcome

 

We believe the path to reducing suffering and dissatisfaction in the world is fairly simple: develop an attitude of ongoing kindness and clarity in your life, and maintain a daily habit of quiet observation.

Based on the teachings of the Buddha, our approach is Western and non-sectarian, fostering an open and non-dogmatic spirit of inquiry.

Our sessions include introductory meditation classes, a weekly speculative philosophy group, and instruction in a variety of traditional Buddhist meditations.

No experience is necessary to participate in most of our sessions. We invite you to attend weekly groups in person, for those fully vaccinated, or online, and to participate in retreats and workshops.

Everyone is welcome.

Intro to Meditation

Two to three times per year we hold an eight-week course to introduce simple secular meditation practices to people new to meditation.

Morning Meditation

Open meditation sits for anyone who would like to join. In-person, no Zoom sessions.

Sadhana Study Group

Ongoing study of various Tibetan Vajrayana meditations, with presentations from group members from time to time.

Currently joined with the Thursday morning seminar.

Seminar: Birth, Sickness, Old Age and Dying

Group study and presentation on themes related to birth, sickness, aging and dying.

Thursday Study Group

Our Thursday evening sessions have been going on since 2007. These sessions explore topics arising from the teachings of the Buddha, as well as a range of studies that include community development, neuroscience, and other speculative topics related to insight into dissatisfaction and struggle.

Retreats

We occasionally offer in-person day retreats at our centre in Winnipeg. We occasionally also offer multi-day residential retreats at rented retreat spaces in Manitoba. Retreats will be announced here or, if you are on the mailing list, will be detailed there.
